Marjorie Weber

Marjorie Weber has over 50 years of experience as a financial consultant to business owners, entrepreneurs and real estate developers. A Miami Dade resident for 37 years, Marjorie has applied her financial skills and business acumen as a board officer of other not-for-profit organizations such as The Haitian American Emergency Relief Committee, United Home Care Services, The City of Miami Community Relations Board, and Miami Beach Botanical Gardens. Her workshops and training programs for entrepreneurs continue to be one of the major educational resources for business owners in Miami Dade.

COO Tom Pupo and CEO Daisy Nodal each have a master’s degree in architecture. The lack of locations available in Miami equipped with the technologies they needed for designing their projects prompted them to research solutions. With SCORE’s help they launched Moonlighter project in 2014. Moonlighter is a membership-based makerspace for creative collaboration, personal manufacturing and engaging in the design process. Moonlighter features and supports local designers, artists and creators and aspires to engage the communities with fun and educational STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics) experiences that foster the growing maker movement.

Innovation of the Year Award​

Steve Gerson is the author of “Contemporary Caribbean Cuisine”, the chef at his award-winning restaurant and consultant to resort properties throughout the Caribbean. While conservation of energy, food safety and food freshness is important worldwide, it is a particular challenge in an isolated island resort. Steve worked to find a natural way of keeping food fresher, longer and in a cost effective way. RD Fresh was the result, an award-winning product designed for the specific use of the commercial food service industry (restaurants, hospitals, schools, catering, etc). RD Fresh is a 100% natural refrigeration dehumidifier that dramatically improves the shelf life of food by absorbing moisture and other contaminates contributing to spoilage.

Giselle Pinto is a Venezuelan full of surprises! Giselle started her educational career with a degree in marketing and a Master of Corporate Communications degree. But now her passion has taken Miami by storm. She is the owner of a fantastically sweet “Empire” called Sugar Yummy Mama. Ranked as one of the top 5 food trucks in Miami, Giselle has found a yummy recipe for success. This has brought her much deserved recognition for her sweet creations. Sugar Yummy Mama was named 2015 Best of Miami Bakery and one of “Miami’s Ten Best Cupcake Shops” by the Miami New Times. She also made the list of Ocean Drive Magazine’s “Where to find the best Pie in Town”.

LaShinda is the marketing executive for DJ Auto Collision Center. She has been in managementcfor over 15 years and strives to ensure every vehicle is completed with a spirit of excellence. DJ’s goal is to repair vehicles accurately and efficiently ensuring high customer satisfaction and increase repeat business. With SCORE’s help, DJ Auto Collision was able to improve their car scheduling, offer cost effective service and improve cash flow. Since the SCORE counseling sessions they have increased their business by 20% in a very highly competitive industry.

Miami Dade Entrepreneur Award​

Carlos Rios, Kids Small World​ (visit website)

Kids Small World is a school dedicated to offering age appropriate classes for children through the age of 5. Kids Small World offers a curriculum design to instill confidence and help each child grow academically, physically and socially. This small business of experienced certified and dedicated teachers strive to create an environment where children feel safe to learn. In the last year, with counseling from SCORE, Kids Small World has grown from 90 students to 140, employed 7 new teachers and was awarded a spot in the pilot for “Early Head Start”. With SCORE‘s help they were able to secure a loan making it possible to expand and grow, doubling their revenue this school year.

Nadege Vilsaint, Prosperity Social Community Development Group, Inc.​

Nadege Vilsaint is a registered licensed clinical social worker and holds a Master of Social Work from Barry University. For over 10 years, Ms. Vilsaint worked in the field making a difference in the lives of people living in under-privileged communities. In 2011, Ms. Vilsaint founded the Prosperity Social & Community Development Group, Inc., a non-profit, social services agency in Miami Dade County. The mission of the organization is to provide meaningful opportunities to revitalize social and economic development in under-served communities including minority groups, immigrants, women, teen-girls and ex-offenders throughout our community.

Philippe Houdard, Pipeline Brickell Workspace​ (visit website)

Philippe Houdard holds a Master of Public Policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and a BS in Business Administration from the University of Florida. Philippe Houdard and Todd Oretsky are co-founders of Pipeline Workspaces, a high-design shared workspace bringing entrepreneurs, startups, independent professionals and small teams together –with the goal of building relationships and collaboration with a diverse community of professionals. Philippe is also founder and president of Developing Minds Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that builds schools and supports education projects in areas affected by armed conflict and poverty.

Raju Mohandas, BridgePoint Financial Group​

Raju Mohandas graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and an MBA in Finance. In 1988 his company ranked in the top 100 nationwide in the industry. Raju devoted the last 10 years of his life to working with small business owners helping facilitate financing for their business growth. Serving as a consultant for all aspects of their business from finance, sales and marketing to operations. He has successfully restructured and helped small businesses obtain capital for their assets and operational needs. As a SCORE Miami Dade counselor and workshop presenter he has consistently received the highest possible feedback.

Rose Hedgemond, Avenues of Excellence, Inc.​ (visit website)

Rose Hedgemond is a Barry University alumna, wife, mother and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. She found her passion in training and educating individuals, companies and organizations in social protocol, etiquette, international protocol and professional development skills. Rose developed Avenues of Excellence, Inc. “AOE” to help educate and equipped individuals with necessary life and interpersonal skills. Through carefully created educational trainings and workshops, AOE has established a list of clientele from universities, youth and community organizations to Fortune 500 companies.

 

 

 

 

Executive of the Year Award​

Monica M. Sarduy, 2000 Ponce Business Center​ (visit website)

Monica M. Sarduy has 10 years of experience in sales and marketing. Currently she is the director of 2000 Ponce Business Center. Monica was able to increased their virtual clients by 60 percent in less than six months and for the past two years kept all 40 office spaces to a sustained 100 percent occupancy. Recently, Monica expanded their business model by creating Veranda on Ponce an event venue within 2000 Ponce. Making 2000 Ponce the premier location to meet, network and do business.  Throughout her career Monica has utilized a combination of practicality, creativity, administration and management techniques to achieve desired results.
